Part 2 Let's Go Fuel
Preventive Measures to Avoid Fuel Pump Failure
Taking preventive measures can help extend the life of your Subaru’s fuel pump and avoid costly repairs. Here are some tips to prevent fuel pump failure:
Use High-Quality Fuel: Always use high-quality fuel to prevent contaminants from clogging the fuel pump, it's also a better octane rating helping the burn process .
Keep Your Fuel Tank Full: Avoid running your vehicle on a low fuel tank to prevent the fuel pump from overheating.
Regular Maintenance: Regularly inspect your fuel system and replace the fuel filter as needed to ensure the fuel pump is working efficiently.
Wear and Tear: Like any mechanical part, fuel pumps have a lifespan, and can eventually fail or malfunction due to wear and tear.
So when do we actually replace the fuel pump .. ???
When you bring your car to us especially for remapping we will ask if your fuel pump has been changed and if it hasn't we would recommend that you change it .
Maintaining your vehicle's fuel system is crucial, especially if you're pushing more power than standard. Here are a few key points to consider regarding pump maintenance and replacement:
1. Pump Longevity: Fuel pumps typically have a lifespan of around 5-7 years under normal conditions, but if you're running higher power levels, it could be wise to replace the pump every 3-4 years to avoid potential failures.
2. Fuel Mixture: A failing pump can lead to a lean fuel mixture, which means not enough fuel is being supplied to the engine. This can cause overheating, knocking, and ultimately lead to serious engine damage.
3. Cost-Benefit Analysis: While replacing a fuel pump might seem like an additional expense, it’s relatively cheap compared to the cost of a full engine rebuild. Proactive maintenance can save you significant money and time in the long run.
4 Upgraded Components: If you've increased your vehicle's power output, consider upgrading to a higher-capacity fuel pump that can handle the increased demand, ensuring your engine runs smoothly without the risk of running lean
1992-2007 cars pump is fitted in the tank and access through the metal plate on the boot .

2008-2019 the pump is in the tank and access is under the back seat .. these are a different unit to the old cars filter and pump in a housing of there own .. we recommend changing the pump and filter at the same time ..
